Peter Long leads one of the world’s largest travel companies and is a long-time supporter of the Family Holiday Association.  Last year he agreed to take on the role of charity President and since then he has devoted considerable time and energy to his new role.

Here at the charity we have always greatly valued our relationship with the staff and customers of TUI Travel PLC and the strength of that relationship has been buttressed by the support of Peter and many of his senior management Team; David Burling, MD of TUI Travel UK & Ireland, is a highly-valued trustee and Chris Browne, TUI’s head of aviation, is an honoured patron.

On Wednesday evening, Peter attended the charity’s regular trustee meeting to hear how the charity intends to use our 40th anniversary next year to make a quantum leap in our visibility and fundraising.  He heard how the TUI relationship will be central to that programme and he updated the Trustees on the work he has been doing on behalf of the charity – meeting with politicians and gaining access at the highest levels of government to push the importance of our work with families.

Peter talked about his pleasure at being able to launch the third Holidays Matter conference earlier this month at the World Travel Market at Excel in London and he also revealed the date of his sailing regatta next year – Thursday 21 May and his hope that we will be able to have over 30 boats involved.  The 2014 Regatta raised almost £20,000 for the charity with 13 boats participating.

Peter also announced an exciting new fund-raising drive that he is leading – but more of that later!
